AIZAWL: Union Minister of Tourism and Department of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) G. Kishan Reddy said on Friday that India's assumption of the G20 presidency would greatly expand the investment opportunities for the hospitality industry as well as adventure, cruise, and wellness tourism.

Reddy said he hopes the G20 meetings, which will be held across the country, including in the northeast, will provide a platform to showcase the culture, history, and tourism potential of the region to the rest of the world. The three-day 10th International Tourism Mart (ITM) Aizawl began on Thursday evening.

While addressing another event on Friday, Reddy noted that Mizoram is a stunning state with a lot of potential for adventure and eco-tourism and that ITM intends to encourage communication between stakeholders and the government.

The minister expressed gratitude to the state government for establishing YUVA Tourism Clubs in colleges and universities.

Reddy drew attention to the many development projects taking place in the northeast and claimed that the Central government's dedication to the region's holistic development was demonstrated by the scale of initiatives it has undertaken.

As part of the International Tourism Mart, a large number of events are being organised. Among them are interactions between buyers and sellers, the media, government organisations, and other stakeholders; presentations by eight northeastern states on their tourism potential; cultural gatherings; and B2B meetings, where buyers from various parts of the country would meet one-on-one with sellers from the northeast region. An exhibition has also been planned to display the member states' tourism-related goods.

The International Tourism Marts are held annually in a different northeastern state, with Mizoram serving as the host state this time.

The previous editions of this mart were held in Guwahati, Shillong, Tawang, Gangtok, Agartala, Imphal and Kohima.
