Durg: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a public meeting in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, ahead of the state's assembly elections. Rahul Gandhi questioned why PM Modi identifies himself as an Other Backward Class (OBC) member while claiming to consider the poor as the only "caste" in the country.
He accused the BJP of disrespecting tribals by using the term 'vanvasi' instead of 'adivasi' in their speeches and pledged that the Congress would eliminate the term 'vanvasi' from the country. He argued that the term 'adivasi' signifies the original owners of the land, while 'vanvasi' is an insult to tribals.
Rahul Gandhi also criticized PM Modi's use of the term 'OBC' and questioned why he uses such terminology when acknowledging the presence of various castes and communities in the country.
He further attacked the BJP-led government, alleging that it takes away land from farmers and tribals for corporate interests, with the benefits ultimately going abroad. Rahul Gandhi claimed that the Congress provides financial assistance to farmers, laborers, and tribals, directly benefiting them.
The upcoming Chhattisgarh assembly elections will be conducted in two phases on November 7 and 17, with Jagdalpur constituency in the tribal-dominated Bastar region being one of the 20 seats contested in the first phase. The remaining 70 constituencies will go to the polls in the second phase.
