New Delhi: The Delhi Police has arrested a 43-year-old man on charges of robbery and phone theft in south Delhi. Police have said that the arrested person is a fan of Argentina football star Lionel Messi. Police said the Messi gang was involved in more than 55 cases of phone theft. This gang has committed many incidents of phone theft and robbery in Delhi.

According to the police, the gang's job is to carry out thefts and snatching incidents in crowded areas. The Messi gang has targeted many people in the last two years. Police said the gang leader is a football fan as well as a footballer himself. He often called himself Messi. Pinku and his accomplices Ajay Kumar (37), Pammi (52), and Feroz Khan (30) were arrested with 56 phones, police said.

DSP (South) Chandan Chaudhary said, "During patrolling on Tuesday, the accused were stopped and interrogated. They tried to mislead the police personnel who were conducting searches. But after a search, they were caught. Eleven mobile phones were recovered from the possession of the gang.'' In police interrogation, the gang members could not tell from where they got so many phones. In police interrogation, 45 more phones were recovered at the behest of the gang. All these phones have been stolen by the accused from different places in Delhi, police said.

During interrogation, Pinku has told that his gang has been active in South and Southeast Delhi for 4-5 years. Pinku said that they used to target their prey in a crowded areas. The accused used to enter the crowded area and steal mobile phones and other valuables and flee. The police have arrested four members of the gang and further investigation is underway.
