In Kanpur, the situation has become critical as the Ganga river surpasses the danger mark due to water release from Narora and Haridwar. Villages like Katri and Shuklagunj in Unnao are now inundated, causing distress to the residents.

The water level in Kanpur currently stands 72 cm above the danger mark. The rising water is making its way into villages like Chainpurwa and Nathupurwa in Katri, impacting nearly 300 houses in Shuklagunj alone.

Though the residents have not been evacuated yet, the administration has advised them to be prepared for evacuation if the water level continues to rise. The situation is particularly worrisome in Nathupurwa and Chainpurwa, where the water level is dangerously close to the entry points.

Local villagers reported that the water's depth is knee-deep as of Friday. In Shuklagunj, the water has flooded several areas, including Syed Compound, Karbala, Champapurwa, Tejipurwa, Shahi Nagar, Hussain Nagar, and Mansukh Khera, affecting about 300 houses.

To aid movement in affected areas, the Unnao administration has provided two boats in Karbala and Hussain Nagar. However, the situation at Ganga Barrage is concerning, as the gushing water is eroding the banks rapidly. As a precautionary measure, the Kanpur administration has banned any river activities like boating and bathing. Divers have been deployed at the flood post, and police are strictly enforcing this decision.

According to the irrigation department, large quantities of water—1.44 lakh cusecs from Narora and 1.14 lakh cusecs from Haridwar—were released on Thursday. This water is expected to reach Kanpur in the next four to five days, leading to a further rise in the Ganga's water level.

The administration is closely monitoring the situation, and around 15 shelters have been set up in schools on higher ground but near the Ganga to accommodate those who may need to be evacuated. In Bithoor, vigilance has been increased, and 12 flood posts are maintaining communication with people to ensure a swift response if evacuation becomes necessary.
