Prayagraj: A major accident occurred on Tuesday night at Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) located in Prayagraj. A urea gas leak occurred in the urea unit here, which badly affected 14 people, including two officials. All were sent to a hospital in the city while Assistant Manager VP Singh and Deputy Manager Abhyanandan succumbed. 12 others have been admitted to city-based hospitals.
IFFCO located at Phulpur on Jaunpur-Gorakhpur road, 30 km from the city, has two units of ammonia and urea manufacturing. Like every day, work continued on Tuesday. From 10 o'clock in the night, the staff deployed in the night shift were working in different units. Around 11.30 am urea unit suddenly started to leak ammonia gas which caused a stampede there. Employees on duty started to run out.
Many also became insensitive inside the unit. Police came along with the company's officials on the information. Somehow the casualties were taken out of the factory and taken to a hospital in the city. The condition of Assistant Manager Urea VP Singh and Deputy Manager Offsite Abhyanandan Kumar son was very critical. Both died a few hours later during treatment at the hospital. Due to which there was chaos.
