RIYADH – The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Nayef Falah Al-Hajraf, has called for a ceasefire in Yemen to allow for the Yemeni talks.

According to Xinhua, citing the Saudi Press Agency, the request was made for the Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen and all Yemeni parties to cease military operations in Yemen.

He also extended an offer to Ansar Allah, popularly known as the Houthis, to attend the negotiations aimed at alleviating Yemen's suffering. The discussions began on Tuesday and will last until April 7 in Riyadh as part of efforts to find political solutions to Yemen's situation.

All prior talks to end Yemen's civil war failed to reach an agreement amongst the parties involved. The UN-sponsored talks will look at the military, political, humanitarian, and societal dimensions of Yemen's dilemma.
