New Delhi: Recently Lieutenant General Manoj Mukund Narwane is going to become the next Chief of the Indian Army. Lieutenant General Narwane is currently serving as the Deputy Chief of the Army. He is going to replace the Army Chief General Bipin Rawat on 31 December 2019. At the same time in September this year, he took over the responsibility of the Vice Chief of Army Staff. But before this, Lieutenant General Narwane was handling the responsibility of the Eastern Command of the army. The eastern command of the army is taking care of India's nearly 4,000-km border with China.
If sources are to be believed, in his 37 years of service, Lt Gen Narwane has a lot of experience in working in a highly active anti-terrorism environment. He has also commanded the National Rifles Battalion in Jammu and Kashmir and the Army Brigade on the Eastern Front. General Narwane has also been a part of the Indian Peace Keeping Force in Sri Lanka.
For information, let us tell you, Lt Gen Narwane is an alumnus of National Defense Academy and Indian Military Academy. In June 1980 was commissioned into the 7th Battalion of the Sikh Light Infantry Regiment. He has a long experience of counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir and Northeast. At the same time, he has been awarded the Army Medal for effectively commanding his battalion in Jammu and Kashmir.
