BENGALURU: On Wednesday, Chief of Army Staff General M.M. Naravane presented four parachute battalions with the famous 'President Colours,' or 'Nishan,' as they are known in the Army.

The 11th Parachute Regiment (Special Force), 21st Parachute Regiment (Special Force), 23rd Parachute Regiment (Special Force), and 29th Parachute Regiment (Special Force) received honours in the Colour Presentation Parade at the Parachute Regiment Training Centre (PRTC) here.

The award of President's Colours is one of the highest honours awarded on a military unit in acknowledgment of outstanding service to the country, both in war and in peace. 'Nishan' is another name for it.

The Parachute Regiment is an elite regiment of the Indian Army with a flawless combat record both before and after independence.

From the inherited history of its battalions up to independence, it has been awarded 51 Battle Honours, 1 Victoria Cross, 28 Military Medals (MM), 11 Distinguished Service Orders (DSO), 40 Indian Distinguished Service Medals (IDSM), and 40 Military Cross (MC).

Following that, the Regiment has won numerous awards in both peace and conflict theatres, including Gaza, Korea, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Runn of Kutch, Rajasthan, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, including Siachen, and the Eastern theatre, which includes Manipur, Nagaland, and Assam.
