This year, Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Pharmaceutical Science (GIPS) in Guwahati was recognised as a DST FIST supported Institute in the entire eastern zone for the development of Science & Technology Infrastructure, which is a historic achievement.

Dr. Bhanu Pratap Sahu headed a team of six people who compiled and filed the proposal, which was then picked for final presentation. They included Dr. Jun Moni Kalita, Dr. Damiki Laloo, Dr. Anupam Sarma, Bhrigu Kumar Das, and Iswar Hazarika. Dr. Gouranga Das, the institute's Principal, presented it to the board members online on January 17 as a representative of the team. The Department of Science and Technology (DST) has awarded the institute a fund of Rs. 1.1 crore in honour of its remarkable contribution to the field of research and development, as well as the merit of the proposal.

GIPS Guwahati is the sole college supported by DST FIST in the whole eastern area this year, which is a source of great pride not just for the faculty, students, and staff at GIPS, but also for the entire northeast region. The fund will be used to develop research infrastructure for studies on the isolation of historically used medicinal plants in the region, as well as the development of drug delivery methods for cancer treatment and related research, according to the Institute's principal.
