New Delhi: The Central Government on Thursday appointed former Girish Chandra Murmu of Jammu and Kashmir as the new Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India. According to the notification issued by the Department of Economic Affairs, " it has been a great pleasure to have the President appointed Mr. Girish Chandra Murmu as Comptroller and Auditor General of India, his appointment will be effective from the date he takes office."

Let us tell you that earlier in the day, President Ram Nath Kovind accepted Murmu's resignation from the post of LG of Jammu and Kashmir. Former Union Minister and veteran BJP leader from Uttar Pradesh Manoj Sinha has been appointed as the new LG of Jammu and Kashmir. Manoj Sinha reached Srinagar on Thursday. The officials said that Chief Secretary BVR Subramaniam and Director General of Police Dilbag Singh welcomed Manoj Sinha at the airport.

Officials said that Sinha went directly to Raj Bhavan from the airport. He told that Sinha can take oath as the second LG of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. Former Minister of State for Railways Sinha (61) will replace Girish Chandra Murmu, who resigned from the post late Wednesday. Murmu was the first LG of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory and his tenure lasted for more than nine months.
