On Monday, the Bhartiya Janta Party expressed shock over a video in which Tej Bahadur Yadav, the dismissed BSF constable whose nomination as the SP’s Varanasi candidate was rejected by Election Commission (EC) last week, is purportedly heard asking for Rs 50 crore to allegedly assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

It is reported to be a two-year-old video. The dismissed Border Security Force jawan’s statement has been caught on camera and the video has since gone viral. Times Now, which first broke the story, however, has stated that it cannot vouch for the authenticity of the video. Tej Bahadur has reportedly admitted that he is in the clip but alleged there is a conspiracy behind it.

When contacted, Tej Bahadur admitted that he is the man in the video but claimed that the clip was doctored as he never spoke of any conspiracy to assassinate the Prime Minister. He said the video was shot by a Delhi Police constable in 2017 when he was staging a dharna at Jantar Mantar in Delhi after his dismissal from the BSF.

Meanwhile, the BJP has lashed out at Tej Bahadur. While addressing a press conference, Bharatiya Janata Party MP GVL Narasimha Rao said that the party was stunned by the statements made by the SP candidate. "He was drafted by the SP from Varanasi and his candidature has been nullified for various reasons. We can see on TV how he is telling a group of people that he is willing to hatch a plot to assassinate PM Modi for Rs 50 crore."
