The ministry of aviation Netherlands has said that flights from India would be banned till at least May 1 amid concerns about a new coronavirus variant. The Dutch government said it would support India with emergency financing of 1 million euros that is equivalent to USD1.2 million.
There would be an exemption for cargo flights and planes carrying medical personnel and equipment.
An official statement by the ministry read “A flight ban will take effect for passenger flights from India at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 26… The flight ban will be in place until at least 00:01 a.m. on May 1,” The flight ban comes on top of an entry ban for non-EU residents.
India has this week reported its highest numbers of new daily cases and deaths since the pandemic started and is facing shortages of oxygen. India comes second with over 16.9 cases. India's death toll is the fourth-highest, counting 192,311 people.
Global Corona Updates: - Meanwhile, the global caseload of COVID-19 has topped 146.67 million, as per the latest data released by the US-based Johns Hopkins University.
Over the past day, about 760,000 new cases were confirmed globally. The disease has now claimed 3,103,115 lives while more than 84.5 million patients have recovered till now.
The United States continues to be the country with the highest single toll of confirmed cases and deaths, 32 million and 572,049, respectively.
