NEW DELHI: At the third Voice of Global South Summit, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a unified approach to tackle global challenges like terrorism and climate change. The summit, hosted virtually by India, seeks to unite countries from the Global South to address common issues and set shared priorities.

During his opening speech, PM Modi highlighted the need for global institutions to better represent developing nations. He remarked, "When India assumed the G20 presidency in 2022, we aimed to restructure the G20 to better address the needs of the Global South. The Voice of Global South Summit has been a crucial platform for discussing development challenges and priorities."

PM Modi celebrated a significant achievement from India's G20 presidency, noting the inclusion of the African Union as a permanent member of the G20, which he described as a major step forward.

Addressing ongoing global uncertainties, the Prime Minister acknowledged the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact of geopolitical conflicts. He also raised concerns about terrorism, extremism, and separatism, describing them as severe threats to global stability. The technological divide and emerging economic and social issues further complicate these challenges.

PM Modi urged the Global South countries to unite and collaborate more effectively. "Current global governance and financial systems are not equipped to handle the 21st-century challenges we face. It is crucial for the Global South to come together, support one another, and learn from each other's experiences. We need to recognize and empower two-thirds of the world's population," he stated.

The theme of the third Voice of Global South Summit, "An Empowered Global South for a Sustainable Future," focuses on addressing conflicts, food and energy security crises, and climate change—issues that disproportionately affect developing nations. The summit reflects India's commitment to the philosophy of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (The World is One Family) and aligns with PM Modi's vision of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas aur Sabka Prayas' (Collective Effort, Inclusive Growth, Trust, and Progress for All).
