Panaji: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today greeted the people of the state on the liberation day of Goa. In fact, on this day, Goa was liberated from 450 years of Portuguese rule in 1961. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Kejriwal today tweeted and wrote, "My best wishes to the people of Goa on the historic 61st Liberation Day. Hats off to all those who sacrificed their lives to liberate Goa from colonial tyranny. It is time to liberate Goa from corrupt politics.''

AAP has decided to field candidates in next year's assembly elections in the state. On the other hand, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has also congratulated the people of the coastal state today. TMC has also announced to contest in Goa. Mamata Banerjee tweeted today, "My best wishes to the brothers and sisters of the state on the Liberation Day of Goa. I salute the supreme sacrifice of all our freedom fighters. Let us resolve to start new dawn for our beautiful kingdom on this important occasion and honor their sacrifices.''

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also scheduled to visit Goa today. In fact, he is coming to Goa to participate in various programs organized on the occasion of Liberation Day of the State. According to the information received, PM Modi will pay homage to the martyrs at Azad Maidan in the capital Panaji today, though he will earlier be part of the Indian Army's 'Sail Parade'. In the evening, he will address the gathering at The Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium here. Elections to the 40-member Assembly of Goa are scheduled to be held in February 2022. BJP is currently in power in the state.
