PANAJI: After receiving numerous complaints from the public and criticism from the opposition, the Goa government has decided to introduce an app to locate potholes on roads and repair them. According to PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral, the Goa cabinet sanctioned two agencies with 'jetpatcher' machines to repair potholes on Thursday.
Before the assembly election, the state's Congress launched a 'Spot the Potholes' campaign, accusing the BJP government of failing to repair potholes. Cabral recently announced plans to eliminate potholes from the state's highways within the next year. "Today, the cabinet approved the idea to appoint two entities that would provide a guarantee of 18 months of road repairs," Cabral said.
These devices, he claimed, will serve both North and South Goa. "We plan to implement a system in which people can upload images of potholes to an app, which will then be sent to the contractor, who will begin work on it within 98 hours. It's a little difficult, but I'm working on it. If it fails, I will also fail "Cabral said.
He stated that the government would not purchase the devices, but that the contractor would be responsible for the financial aspect. Cabral admitted that achieving the aim of a state devoid of potholes is challenging, but he is trying for that.
