GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his condolences for the lives lost in a devastating road accident in Golaghat, Assam. He declared financial aid of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF for each deceased person's family and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
Expressing sorrow over the incident, PM Modi stated, "Pained by the loss of lives due to a road mishap in Golaghat, Assam. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover at the earliest. The local administration is providing all possible assistance to those affected. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000," as posted by the Prime Minister's Office on X.
President Droupadi Murmu also extended her sympathies regarding the accident. "The news of the sudden death of many people in a road accident in Golaghat, Assam is extremely sad. I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured," President Droupadi Murmu posted on X.
Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma conveyed his deep sorrow at the tragic bus accident in Dergaon and offered condolences to the affected families. The Assam Chief Minister's office assured that necessary support is being provided to the injured individuals during this difficult time.
The unfortunate collision occurred when a bus carrying approximately 50 passengers heading to Tinsukia's Tilinga temple for a picnic collided with a coal-laden truck on the national highway at Dergaon in Golaghat. The accident resulted in the loss of 12 lives and left 30 others injured. Golaghat Superintendent of Police Rajen Singh confirmed the details of the incident.
