Google is marking Nowruz, the Iranian New Year, with a special Doodle today, March 19. This year's Doodle, created by Iranian artist Pendar Yousefi, celebrates a festival with a history spanning over 3,000 years. Yousefi's artwork reflects his fond memories of Nowruz from childhood, showing animal friends gathered in a courtyard amidst flowers, under a blossoming tree, symbolizing joy, unity, and optimism.

The Doodle is notable for its vibrant colors and intricate designs reminiscent of illuminated manuscripts, paying homage to the artistic traditions of Nowruz-observing regions. Originating in ancient Iran (Persia), Nowruz, meaning "new day" in Persian, is closely linked to the spring equinox, marking the beginning of both a new year and the rejuvenation of nature.

The roots of Nowruz trace back to the flourishing trade along the Silk Road, facilitating its spread and adoption by various countries and ethnicities. Today, millions worldwide celebrate Nowruz, coming together to embrace the season of renewal with open arms.
