Raipur: The Chhattisgarh Assembly has passed the Gambling Prohibition Bill 2022 after people were duped in online betting. With the passage of this bill, online betting and gambling in public places in Chhattisgarh has come under the purview of the law. According to the new law, there is a provision of imprisonment of up to 7 years and a fine of Rs 10 lakh for those who play and organize online gambling.

Gambling in a public place can be punished with imprisonment of up to 6 months or a fine of Rs 10,000. The punishment for this type of crime can be from 1 to 3 years if caught for the first time. In Chhattisgarh, the opposition was attacking the government over the continuous online gaming, whether it was the case of the Mahadev app or other online games, the government was getting embroiled in these cases, after which the Congress government decided to make a law against it. Chhattisgarh Police had registered hundreds of cases across the state regarding online gaming and thousands of people were arrested, but due to the lack of a gaming act, all the criminals were either released from the police station or from the court. However, now after the arrival of this law, strict action will be taken against those who play the game.

The opposition was constantly accusing the government that the money of many white-collar leaders and officers is being sent abroad through the Mahadev app. This matter was also raised in the House and there was fierce politics about it. Rajnandgaon MP Santosh Pandey had also raised this whole issue in the Lok Sabha. It was being told that the Mahadev app is being operated by some representatives associated with the government and transactions worth crores of billions have been done through this app. In this case, former Transport Minister Rajesh Moodat submitted a memorandum to the Raipur ED office and alleged that transactions worth crores of rupees have taken place in the Mahadev app. Money has been shifted abroad through this app. The opposition has demanded from the ED to investigate the whole matter.
