The Tamil Nadu government will launch a project - Illam Thedi Kalvi - (Education at the Doorstep) - on a pilot project basis to bridge the learning gap created among students due to the closure of schools during the pandemic lockdown. Based on the result, the project will be extended to students of classes I to VIII of government schools.

Initially, it will be launched for two weeks in Cuddalore, Dindigul, Erode, Kancheepuram, Kanyakumari, Krishnagiri, Madurai, Nagapattinam, Nilgiris, Thanjavur, Tiruchirappalli and Villupuram districts. The project is to be implemented for a period of six months to impart educational skills among children who have not been attending their classes since March 2020, when the lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus came into force. The scheme will be implemented at an estimated cost of Rs 200 crore from this financial year with the participation of teachers, volunteers, NGOs and academicians.

"It will be made a mass movement with the participation of parents, public, volunteers and teachers," an official press release said. School Education Minister Ambil Mahesh Poyyamozhi flagged off the campaign vehicle related to the educational project.
