Bangalore: Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decision that agricultural regulations would not be repealed, Congress leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah requested on Friday that the Centre pay Rs 25 lakh to the families of farmers slain in an agitation against the rules. This, according to the Congress leader, is the consequence of democracy. In a democracy, no matter how powerful the tyrant is, he will eventually have to surrender to the people.

"Now that the BJP has realized its error and the Modi administration has dropped anti-farmer policies," Siddaramaiah remarked, emphasising the need of bringing justice to farmers. It's beyond time to make right for the farmers who died in the movement. I strongly encourage Prime Minister Modi to provide a payment of Rs 25 lakh to the families of the slain farmers. Farmers have now been given their independence,' Siddaramaiah tweeted.

In his address to the nation today, Prime Minister Modi declared the repeal of all three agriculture laws (Three Farm Laws). Since November of last year, farmers have been protesting agricultural rules. Farmers on the Ghazipur border chanted 'Kisan Ekta Zindabad' as Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the repeal of all three agriculture laws on Friday.
