New Delhi: The Modi government at the center is trying to provide 24-hour power to every household in the country. Most power distribution companies are at a loss. Due to which the government is facing a problem in achieving the target. Therefore, the government is thinking of introducing a new electricity tariff policy. The objective is to end the losses incurred on DISCOM, ie electricity distribution companies. The Union Power Minister said that the government will also launch Uday-2 soon.

He said that the only major hurdle is the loss of DISCOM in the way of meeting the power demand round the clock for all. According to the receipts portal of the Government of India, at the end of July this year, the power generating companies owed Rs 73,425 crore to the distributor companies. Of this, Rs 55,256 crore is of the overdue item, that is, the period of payment of this amount has already ended. It is worth noting that 60-day deferment is paid by the power generating companies to the electricity distribution companies.

In the event of non-payment during this period, companies also have to pay interest on the amount. The Power Minister said that we are coming up with a plan to reduce the losses of DISCOM. Under this, we will provide funds to DISCOMs to set up police stations in our workplace and to curb power theft. We want to start the Uday-2 scheme in the current financial year itself.

But even after the implementation of this scheme, if the DISCOM did not take appropriate measures to reduce the losses and the losses did not show, then they would not be provided loans. The Union Minister said that there is no problem in providing 24-hour power to the government. The real problem is to reduce the losses of distributor companies.
