Talking to media in the Prime Minister's Office on this matter, Singh said that the 700 MW capacity third heavywater reactor unit of Kakrapar Atomic Power Station (KAPS) is likely to be commissioned in April. There are 22 reactors in the country.

In his statement, a senior DAE official Srikrishna Gupta said, the fourth unit of Kakrapar Atomic Power Station is also likely to be commissioned by 2021. They have completed 50 years of work. These two were the first boiling water reactors in the country, which were commissioned in October 1969. He said Unit-1 of Kaiga Power Station was prepared for operation in a record time of 941 days.
