Govt calls all-party meeting on July 17 ahead of Monsoon Session

NEW DELHI: Prior to the Monsoon session of Parliament, Vice president and Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu has called for a  meeting of floor leaders of various parties on Sunday evening.

Sources said,  Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Prahlad Joshi has also scheduled a meeting of all parties on Sunday morning to discuss the agenda and solicit their support for the smooth operation of the Parliament session, which will commence on July 18.

Source said,  Vice President has called a meeting for July 17 at 6 PM when he will seek the assistance of various parties to ensure a productive meeting.

The Monsoon session of Parliament starts on July 18 and will go on till August 12. Notably, Naidu's term ends on August 10, therefore this will also be his final meeting.

The deadline for submitting nominations for the vice president's post has passed, and the election will take place on July 19. Both the opposition and the ruling BJP have not yet announced a candidate for the role of vice president.

As per reports, the Agnipath scheme for short-term recruitment to the armed forces, the India-China border standoff,  unemployment, and the declining value of the rupee are some of the issues the Opposition is expected to bring up in the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament.
