GANDHINAGAR: Following a significant increase in Covid-19 cases in the state, the Gujarat government said on Thursday that the biennial Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS), which was scheduled to take place in Gandhinagar from January 10 to 12, will be cancelled.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel revealed on Thursday that the state government has chosen to cancel the VGGS, which was scheduled to begin on January 10 in Gandhinagar.

The Gujarat Chief Minister met with top authorities on Wednesday to discuss the current state of Covid-19. The meeting determined that the VGGS should be cancelled for the time being due to a considerable increase in the number of cases not just in India but also globally, and in the public interest.

Patel commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his unwavering support for the event, which he began when he was Gujarat's chief minister in 2003. Due to the global epidemic, the previous edition, slated for January 2021, was also cancelled.
