New Delhi: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has ordered the blocking of apps, websites, and social media accounts of "Punjab Politics TV," a foreign-based channel with close ties to Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), which has been declared unlawful under the 1967 Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The Ministry exercised emergency powers under the IT Rules on February 18 to restrict the digital media resources of "Punjab Politics TV" based on intelligence inputs that the channel was seeking to use online media to disrupt public order during the ongoing State Assembly elections.

The restricted applications, websites, and social media accounts contained content that might instigate communal strife and separatism, and were found to be harmful to India's sovereignty and integrity, state security, and public order. The launch of new apps and social media accounts was also timed to garner popularity during the ongoing elections, according to the ministry in an official statement.

The ministry also stated that the government is committed to safeguarding India's entire information environment and preventing any activities that could jeopardise the country's sovereignty and integrity.
