New Delhi: Indian Railways is taking important steps to help farmers. Now, in this link, it has been decided to exempt the transportation of fruits and vegetables in the Kisan Railways. The Railway Ministry recently said, "50% subsidy will be given in transportation of fruits and vegetables in Kisan Railways. Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has informed about this. He said, "The centre has issued an order to provide 50% subsidy on transportation of fruits and vegetables through Kisan Rail last Tuesday." This subsidy has been said to be given under the operation green-top to the total scheme.

Recently, Piyush Goyal said, "Subsidy in transporting vegetables and fruits by Kisan Rail has been made 50%. Farmers will now be able to send their products to the new market at a lower cost which will increase their income. Under the centre's self-reliant India campaign, the Ministry of Food Processing Industries had announced to expand the Operation Green scheme for 6 months on a Pilot basis to bring all fruits and vegetables (total) from tomato, onion and potato (top) to its ambit. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced in May that ' Operation Green ' would be expanded with an additional fund of Rs. 500 crores and would cover all fruits and vegetables except tomatoes, onions and potatoes. Now, the Ministry of Railways in its order has said, "After the use of this fund, Indian Railways would provide utilization certificate to the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MOFPI)."

The order also says that thereafter, the Ministry would provide additional funds to the railways. Therefore, zonal railways have been asked to provide subsidy upto 50% with immediate effect on fruits and vegetables transported through Kisan Rail. The centre had announced to run a special parcel train ' Kisan Rail ' in this financial year's budget.
