NEW DELHI: The Narendra Modi-led administration is keen to embrace stronger social media standards, said Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. He also stated that all microblogging services operating in the country must be held accountable.
He said the administration is willing to take up the topic of harsher social media laws if the Rajya Sabha members agree.
"If the Upper House has unanimity, we are willing to introduce even tighter social media restrictions for microblogging sites such as Twitter and Facebook," the minister stated in response to CPI-M leader Jharna Das Baidya during Question Hour. "We are now working within the confines of the Constitution. However, we must make social media more accountable in the future "In response to Baidya's question about if the government has developed any rules or guidelines for social media platforms, Vaishnaw stated.
