GANDHINAGAR: The government of Gujarat today, February 24, presented  Rs. 3.01 lakh crore budget with no new taxes imposed on people.

The financial expenditure for the fiscal year 2023–2024 was given today in the State Legislature by Gujarat's Finance Minister, Kanu Desai. The new Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, presented its maiden budget in December of last year after winning the Assembly elections by a landslide.

The Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya-MA (PMJAY-MA) scheme's insurance coverage will be doubled to Rs. 10 lakh from Rs. 5 lakh, and recipients of the Ujjwala scheme will receive two free gas cylinders each year, according to the Budget 2023–24, which includes a number of projects and schemes that were promised by the BJP in its manifesto before the 2022 elections.

The forecasts for the financial year 2023–24 show a surplus of Rs. 916.87 crore when the revenue account, capital account, and net public account are taken into account, according to Minister Desai.
"In this 'AmritKaal', I present the budget which will decide the direction of the development of the state for the next 25 years. For the year 2023-24, I propose a budgetary outlay of Rs 301,021 crore. This shows a significant increase in the budgetary provisions, which is 23.38 percent higher than the previous year. The government also targets to increase the State's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) beyond Rs. 42 lakh crore, he said.

The budget does not include any new tax proposals. We provided help to different sectors of the population during the epidemic to the tune of Rs 1,000 crore by cutting various taxes," he said, adding that  the State government will invest about Rs. 5 lakh crore in the construction of infrastructure amenities over the next five years. 5 State highways will be developed as high-speed corridors at Rs. 1,500 crore investment,  Desai said.

He said, the government also intends to build sports facilities in each district and taluka of the State. He also mentioned that, over the course of the following year, a total of Rs. 1,066 crore will be used to build homes for about a lakh people under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).
