New Delhi: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), a state-owned company, has successfully tested the Smart Airfield Destroyer Weapon (SAAW) on Thursday to achieve a new position. This smart weapon will destroy the enemy bunker and airfield on Earth from 100 km away. HAL has conducted its first test with Hawk-eye aircraft in Odisha offshore area.
HAL's test pilot Wing Commander (retired) P Awasthi and Wing Commander (retired) M Patel launched Smart by plane and completed all the objectives of the mission. In this connection, a HAL official said that this was the first test done by the Hawk-I aircraft, which made the exact target, and the results were expected. He said that this will enhance the strength of the Indian Army.
Hal said in a statement that the smart weapon developed by the Research Centre Building (RCE) of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) was launched by the Indian Hawk-Mk 132. Telemetry and tracking systems confirmed the test was successful. HAL CMD R Madhavan said that the company-owned Hawk-Eye platform is being extensively used by DRDO and CSIR laboratories for the commercialization of indigenously developed systems and weapons.
