Top seed Simona Halep, trying to get her first title in Rome, defeated Garbine Muguruza on Sunday to make it to the final of the Italian Open Tennis tournament for the third time. Halep beat Muguruza 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in a semi-final that lasted 2 hours 16 minutes. Muguruza appeared to be battling during her service, making a double fault in the last 2 points.

Halep also reached the finals of 2017 and 2018 but lost to Elina Svitolina. She is now scheduled to face the winner of the second semi-final to be held on Monday during Karolína Plíšková and Markéta Vondroušová.

After tennis was restored, Halep's winning record is 9–0. Tennis was restored in Prague last month after a 5-month break due to Covid-19, in which the Romanian player has won the title. She did not play at the US Open due to travel and health concerns.
