May 24 may be regarded as the day in 2021, especially in Kolkata when people are waiting for the lockdown to perish its departure; while some are counting on to lead a life that is termed to be the ‘one not devoid of normalcy’. However, it’s also the genius Bob Dylan’s 80 th birthday today and independent filmmaker Aneek Chaudhuri for whom Dylan has been an inspiration says amidst such a crisis, one can never discard the fact of the birth of a literary genius.

“Yes, I have been speaking to introduce this very fact of such an important day, or spectacle. Today, Bob Dylan was born. However, when we speak of Dylan, we speak of the times too. We talk about the situations of the country, cities, regions too, however local it may be. Let’s begin by talking about the urban folk stratum,” shares

“Bob was perhaps (Yes, I would say Bob rather than ‘Dylan’ and his music makes me approach him with such spatial proximity) the most versatile in terms of urban folk genre musicians; by versatile, I am definitely not terming him to be the best, but his variations from Urban Folk to Rock was indeed impressive.

Speaking further on how Bob Dylan’s music has inspired generations over the years, the Kolkata-based filmmaker says: “Beginning with his songs like Mr. Tambourine Man, Like a Rolling Stone, Fare thee well, we can leave ourselves behind in a comforting couch surrounded by smokes, dirt, abuses, tensions, stress, frustration, and get more aware of them in a better way. That’s what his music has done; it has not helped anyone to escape, by imparting a tunnel lit by slightly shoddy mirrors where people could look themselves at/in and know the reality in the absence of others.
