A strange incident comes to light in which a woman has been booked for making prank calls to emergency helpline 112 and hurling abuses at cops. The woman is facing up to three months in jail for obscene acts and songs, and obstructing a public servant from discharging duty. The accused was identified as Suman, a resident of Bir Ghaggar  in Panchkula.

 The police complaint filed by Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kalia,  , a caller had been making prank calls to emergency helpline 112 and using abusive language. He said, “Such frequent calls are making the emergency service unavailable to people in distress and consuming our resources by wasting the precious time that can be helpful for a caller in need,” the SP said in the complaint sent to the Panchkula deputy commissioner of police.

When police investigated into the  matter it was found that Upon investigation the phone number was traced to the accused. She was booked under relevant sections of the IPC which included Sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 290 (public nuisance) and 294 (obscene act and songs) of theIndian Penal Code  at the Sector-5 police station.

 112 Emergency Response Support System was launched by Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar in July 2021 for immediate response to the distress calls received from across the state. The helpline is handled from he State Emergency Response Centre in Sector 3, Panchkula. Abusing the helpline and calling the number for any other purpose than what it is intended for is a criminal offense and the recent case is an example for this as it really affect the one who are really in need and wanted help. It wasted the time of public servants who are there to serve the needy.
