CHANDIGARH: Chandigarh Police is investigating allegations of rape attempt levelled by an athletics coach against Haryana Sports Minister Sandeep Singh, a former Olympian.

The junior coach and woman athlete on Friday filed a case with Chandigarh police. She was  instructed to see SP City Shruti Arora on the fourth level of the building when she arrived at the Chandigarh police headquarters in Sector 9 at 1 o'clock in the afternoon. She went to the SSP's room after meeting her and lodged her complaint.

She spent about two and a half hours at the SSP office. The junior coach claimed that the officer had guaranteed her justice after the meeting. The minister, according to the female player, "inappropriately touched her, complimented her figure, and encouraged her to keep him pleased."

The coach, in her handwritten complaint, elaborated how senior departmental coworkers and police officials had discouraged her from filing a complaint due to a lack of evidence. The junior coach claimed in the complaint that he was able to thwart a rape attempt because the door was left unlocked.

In addition, she claimed that harassment continued long after the incident and her appointment in September, reportedly at the minister's direction.

She declared to media people that she had made the decision to speak out against the harassment she was experiencing. She also said that she had received threats and had not yet received police protection. The minister, DGP P K Agrawal, and other Haryana police officers who were aware of the situation remained inaccessible during this time.

Kavita Rani, a professional Kabaddi player and the deputy director of the sports division who is presently on a two-year study vacation, attempted to defend minister Sandeep Singh. Kavita stated during a press conference at the district sports office (DSO) Panchkula that she could not accept the accusations because she had known the minister for the previous two years. I'll ask everyone to make sure they hear both views, she said.
