Chief Minister of India's state of Haryana, Manohar Lal has instructed all DCs to speed up the work on small schemes of flood control. DC will have to personally visit potential flood sites. Before the monsoon starts, DC will have to clean the urban and rural drains while setting the target.

For your information, let us tell you that the work on flood control schemes and other flood control measures should be completed by 20 June 2020. The Chief Minister gave these instructions on Thursday through video conferencing. He was presiding over a review meeting of flood control preparations.

In his statement, he said that work on 143 short-term schemes is going on in the districts at an estimated cost of Rs 132.25 crore. The work of removing silt from the drains should be completed before 20 June at all costs. Strengthen the banks of rivers especially in Yamunanagar and Karnal districts to prevent the possibility of floods. In the meeting it was stated that 588 out of 833 urban and rural drains have been identified for cleaning. Under the MNREGA, the work of cleaning the drains is being done at a rapid pace. NHAI and Railways are managing 18 drains. DCs were instructed to coordinate with NHAI and Railways for cleaning these drains. At the same time, the CM said that about 522 such temporary sites have been identified where there is a possibility of water accumulation. Temporary power connections have been sought to drain water from the pump.
