Telangana: In the aftermath of a surge in Omicron cases across the country, the Telangana government was ordered by the Hyderabad High Court on Thursday to implement restrictions to prohibit public gatherings on Christmas and New Year's Day.

This comes just one day after Telangana reported 14 additional Omicron cases, bringing the total number of new variant cases to 38. Two of the 14 new instances included travellers from the United Kingdom, which is classified as a 'at risk' country.

Meanwhile, the number of Omicron cases in India has risen to 236, with 104 people recovering or migrating, according to data provided on Thursday by the Union Health Ministry. Maharashtra has the most cases of the Omicron variety with 65, followed by Delhi with 64, Telangana with 24, Karnataka with 19, Rajasthan with 21, and Kerala with 15. According to ministry data updated at 8 a.m., India registered 7,495 new coronavirus infections, bringing the total number of cases to 3,47,65,976, with 78,291 active cases. According to the figures, the death toll has risen to 4,78,759, including 434 new deaths.
