The Madras High Court's Tamil Nadu Madurai Bench on Tuesday ordered the state education department to form special teams to identify government school teachers who are giving private tutions or running their own private businesses.

A government school teacher was appealing the dismissal of her request for transfer to another district in front of the court.

Justice S M Subramaniam, after hearing the arguments, ordered that the state government organize special teams in all districts to identify and discipline government school instructors who take private tuition and conduct private businesses.

The quality of education provided by government school teachers has also been questioned by Justice Subramanian. He noted that government school teachers are more concerned with their demands, and that the teachers' union meddles in education department decisions.

The court also ordered that the school education department give common telephone or mobile numbers for parents and students to use to register complaints about illegalities, irregularities, and misconduct by teachers both within and outside of schools.
