To prevent unwanted pregnancy in Bihar, the Bihar Health Department is distributing contraceptives among migrant laborers who are leaving their homes after completing the 14-day institutional quarantine and who live outside the home. This information was given by an official. Out of the 29 lakh migrants returned to the state, 8.77 lakh people have been discharged as they have completed their 14-day quarantine period. Till date 5.30 lakh migrants are living in block and district level quarantine centers across the state.

In his statement, a senior health department official said, 'Migrant workers are going to their homes after completing the institutional quarantine of 14 days. Since there are chances of unwanted pregnancies. So we give them (migrant laborers) proper advice and are giving them contraceptives to avoid unwanted pregnancy. '' Officers who have been entrusted with the task of family planning in the State Health Society made it clear that it is purely a family planning solution and it has nothing to do with Covid-19. It is our responsibility as a health professional to control it. We are using our health partner Care India to implement this initiative.

The official said that this initiative will continue till the quarantine centers are closed. On June 15, all the quarantine centers will be closed as the state government has decided that now the migrants coming to the state will not be kept in the quarantine centers. While health coordinators are distributing two packets of contraceptives at the quarantine centers, ASHA workers are distributing condoms to people during door-to-door screening at home quarantine. An official of NGO Care India said, 'We are providing technical assistance to the Health Department in this initiative.'
