New Delhi: Dense fog caused significant disruptions to train and flight services in the capital on Wednesday morning, leaving many passengers stranded at airports and railway stations.

A considerable number of flights bound for Delhi or scheduled to depart from there were either delayed or canceled due to the adverse weather conditions.

According to Flightradar24, a website tracking flights, a total of 51 flights were delayed and 11 were canceled at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport.

IndiGo, a domestic airline, issued a notice on social media platform X, warning passengers about potential disruptions to flight schedules due to the fog in Delhi and nearby Chandigarh.

Reports indicated that five flights were diverted from Delhi airport between 9 pm on Tuesday and 7 am on Wednesday, with three heading to Jaipur and two to Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

The airport implemented Low Visibility Procedures (LVP) to facilitate landings for flights when visibility dropped below 800 meters. Visuals from Terminal 3 of IGIA showed planes covered in fog on the tarmac.

A passenger advisory from Delhi Airport notified travelers about potential flight disruptions due to the prevailing fog. The advisory urged passengers to contact their respective airlines for updated flight information.

To address the foggy conditions, the airport authorities activated the CAT-III Instrument Landing System (ILS), enabling precision approach and landing when visibility is low on the runway.

According to the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northern Railways, 23 trains to Delhi from various parts of the country experienced delays due to dense fog.

The New Delhi-Moga Express, Bhagalpur-Anand Vihar Express, Ranikamlapathi-Hazrat Nizamuddin Express, and Banaras-New Delhi trains were delayed by over two hours. Meanwhile, the Puri-New Delhi Express, Hyderabad-New Delhi Express, and Howrah-Kalka Express were delayed by six and a half hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded the minimum temperature in the capital at 10°C on Wednesday morning. The Met office also noted that January's minimum temperature at the city's Safdarjung observatory was the second lowest in the past 13 years.
