Gangtok: About 300 tourists are stranded in North Sikkim due to heavy rains and cloudbursts. The flood situation has become more severe in many areas following the downpour triggered by cloudbursts on Monday. Roads and bridges have been damaged by the landslides. Several low lying areas have been inundated due to the rising water level in the Teesta river. Nhpc's guest house in Dikchu was also washed away in the river due to the upsurge.

According to information, the suspension bridge connecting The village of Tingwong and Sakyong Pentong also collapsed. This has broken the connectivity of Pentong village to the state. 60 trains of tourists visiting North Sikkim were stranded between Lachen and Jema-3 due to landslides. More than 300 stranded tourists have been evacuated by ITBP and police.

At the same time, the administration has banned tourists from going to North Sikkim for three days. Several houses have been damaged by the landslide. In South Sikkim, a suspension bridge was washed away in the river at Simchuthang. This bridge was meant for pedestrians. It used to connect the South and the East districts.
