RAJASTAN: Parts of Rajasthan are experiencing continued heavy rainfall, with the Meteorological Centre in Jaipur predicting an active monsoon phase in the eastern region throughout the week. Several districts, including Bundi, Jaipur, and Jodhpur, have recorded significant rainfall in the past 24 hours.

Nainwa, located in Bundi district, witnessed the highest rainfall, measuring 141 mm. Meanwhile, in western Rajasthan, Jodhpur recorded 90.6 mm of rain. Other areas also experienced heavy downpours, including Aasind in Bhilwara with 102 mm, Kudgaon in Karauli with 101 mm, Duni in Tonk with 86 mm, and Andhi in Jaipur with 80 mm.

The weather department has reported moderate to heavy showers across various locations in the state during this period.

Looking ahead, the forecast indicates that the Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions in western Rajasthan will continue to see moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms until Sunday. In particular, the Jodhpur division is expected to receive heavy rain until Saturday.

Western Rajasthan Sees 81% More Rainfall Than Usual, Traffic Disrupted Due to Heavy Rains

This monsoon season, western Rajasthan recorded an impressive 462.3 mm of rainfall, which is 81% higher than the usual 255.9 mm, officials reported. Notably, Dausa experienced a significant 123% increase, receiving 1,191.2 mm of rainfall compared to the typical 535.1 mm.

Jaisalmer also saw an astonishing 160% rise in rainfall, registering 417.8 mm against the usual 160.4 mm. Similarly, Sawai Madhopur recorded 1,066.7 mm of rain, nearly double the normal 539.5 mm, marking a 98% increase. Tonk reported a 90% increase in rainfall as well.

The heavy downpours have affected transportation, with both rail and road traffic disrupted over the past two days, according to officials.

The Meteorological Department predicts more heavy rainfall in the state until September 7, with a slowdown expected afterward. Radheshyam Sharma, Director of the Meteorological Centre in Jaipur, explained that a low-pressure system over Madhya Pradesh has weakened into a cyclonic circulation and is now active over southwestern Rajasthan. Additionally, a new low-pressure area is expected to form in the Bay of Bengal.

This weather system may bring heavy to very heavy rains to Jodhpur, Udaipur, Kota, and Ajmer divisions, while moderate to heavy showers are expected in parts of Jaipur, Bharatpur, and Bikaner divisions.

Monsoon activity is likely to persist in eastern Rajasthan for the next four to five days, with rainfall decreasing and dry weather starting from September 8.

Meanwhile, the continuous rainfall has raised water levels in rivers and large dams across the state. Authorities have released water from several dams, including 5,600 cusecs from two gates of Panchana Dam in Karauli, 1,260 cusecs from Kota Barrage, 8,133 cusecs from Kalisindh Dam in Jhalawar, 392 cusecs from Parvati Dam in Dholpur, and 45,655 cusecs from eight gates of the Mahi Dam in Banswara.
