According to the meteorological department, the weather has changed in the South Peninsular between the interval of 4-5 days. Fears of heavy rains are being expressed in some parts of the country. There is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall over Northeast and adjoining East India during the next 2-3 days. Heavy rains are also expected over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim and Assam and Meghalaya during the next 12 hours. According to the Meteorological Department, the southeast monsoon has covered the entire country about two weeks before the scheduled time. It says that Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh will receive severe rains in the next few days. Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Director General Mrityunjay Mohapatra said that the southwest monsoon is increasing in Rajasthan, Haryana and other parts of Punjab.

In his statement, IMD Director General Mohapatra said that for the first time after the year 2013, the monsoon is drenching the eastern Himalayas at such a rapid pace. It is raining from Bihar to eastern Vidarbha. Due to the arrival of southwest winds from the Bay of Bengal, there is a possibility of heavy rain in Bengal, eastern India in the next 2-3 days. Extreme rains have been predicted from Bihar and eastern states on 28 and 29 June.

The monsoon is fully active in Bihar, in such a situation, the Meteorological Department has again issued a 72-hour alert to the state for heavy rain and lightning. Meteorologists have predicted that the state will receive at least 100 mm of rain in the next 72 hours. The rainfall so far has broken the record of last 22 years and the state has recorded 254 mm of rain so far, which is 87 percent more than normal.
