Kochi: Heavy rain in all parts of Kerala since Saturday night brought the water level to the danger mark in many dams in the state while several roads were submerged by Sunday morning. The MET department said the heavy rain is expected to continue for the next two days, especially in the southern parts of the state.

The same Idukki district administration said that according to the Tamil Nadu government, the water level in the Mullaperiyar dam has reached 140 feet on Sunday morning. As a result, people living on both sides of the Periyar river have been asked to be more vigilant. Because the gates of the dam can be opened when the water level rises in the next 24 hours.

After the highest rainfall in Pathanamthitta, the district administration has advised the public to be very vigilant. People living especially on the banks of the river or in landslide-prone areas have been asked to remain vigilant. News channels are showing views of submerged roads in all parts of the Pathanamthitta and Kollam districts. An orange alert has been issued in both these cities. Kottayam district also received heavy rainfall in the morning but no untoward incident is reported from there. In some parts of Kerala, minor landslides and train services were disrupted due to continuous rains on Saturday, forcing the officers to exercise utmost vigilance in hilly areas, river banks and tourist centres.
