The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy rainfall for several states, including Gujarat, Goa, and Maharashtra, over the next few days. This weather phenomenon is attributed to a newly intensified depression situated over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining east Rajasthan.

Heavy Rainfall Forecast

The depression is expected to move west and southwest, impacting South Rajasthan and Gujarat, with significant rainfall predicted for Saurashtra and Kutch by August 29. The IMD has also issued alerts for heavy rainfall in isolated places in East Madhya Pradesh today and very heavy rain in West Madhya Pradesh. Similar weather conditions are forecasted for east and south Rajasthan, Gujarat, Saurashtra, and Kutch from August 26 to August 29.

In addition, regions such as Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and Jharkhand are expected to experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the next two days.

Strong Winds Warning

The IMD has also cautioned about strong winds accompanying the rainfall. Wind speeds of up to 50 kmph are anticipated in Madhya Pradesh today, with gusts reaching 60 kmph in south Rajasthan today and tomorrow, August 27. In Gujarat, winds with gusty speeds of 55 kmph are expected today, potentially increasing to 60-70 kmph in Rajasthan from August 26-27. Coastal areas of Gujarat and Maharashtra may experience rough sea conditions.

Fishermen Advisory

Fishermen are advised to refrain from venturing into the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, particularly around the coasts of Gujarat and Maharashtra, until August 30.

Public Safety and Precautions

The IMD urges the public to avoid waterlogged areas and to stay updated with traffic advisories before traveling. Farmers are advised to ensure proper drainage in fields to prevent crop damage. The potential for localized flooding, road closures, and waterlogging, especially in urban areas, could also lead to landslides and damage to horticultural crops.
