Hello! Magazine published a story on where the Earl and Countess of Strathearn are planning to go on their next trip “abroad”.
The destination will come as a pleasant surprise to those who have been campaigning for Scottish independence, as apparently the royal couple will be going to that foreign land of Scotland.
“The next trip abroad for Prince William and Kate Middleton has been revealed as the royal couple will be heading to Scotland,” the magazine reports.
While this would be a welcome development for many of us, unfortunately we are not quite there yet – though of course Scotland recently elected a pro-independence majority of MSPs, so perhaps we won’t have to wait too much longer.
The couple are due to visit Scotland as William spends time in his role as Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.
William will arrive tomorrow while Kate comes next week, and the pair are set to visit Edinburgh, Fife and Orkney.
It comes after a December trip which sparked anger. The Earl and Countess went on a cross-Border train trip to Scotland while restrictions on travel were in place, with an SNP MP accusing them of sending “wrong and confusing” messages during the pandemic.
At the time travel to and from Scotland was banned unless it was considered essential.
Tommy Sheppard, who represents Edinburgh East, said while it was debatable whether William and Kate's journey was essential, he "certainly" didn't think it was.
