According to a popular belief, It is said that after marriage, a newlywed girl needs to celebrate her first holi at her maternal home and not in her in-laws home. However various people are unaware of the reason of this ritual. According to this tradition, it is said that after marriage, the first Holi of the newlyweds should be held at their maternal home. It is believed that if a new bride celebrates her first holi at her maternal life then their married life passes happily.

It is also said that after marriage, on the first Holi the distance from the husband, increases the love between the newlywed. According to tradition, On the occasion of Holi, the girl goes to her maternal house and the husband comes to his in-laws' house on the day of Holi and plays Holi with his wife and sisters-in-law, which increases love. It is said that if the husband plays Holi with his wife the bond between Husband and wife increases and the relationship between the husband with his in-laws also flourishes and according to other beliefs it is considered inauspicious if a girl celebrates her first holi at her in-laws home.
