The Islamabad High Court has ordered the Additional Attorney General (AAG) to present Prime Minister Imran Khan and the federal cabinet with its directives for the demolition of the Navy Sailing Club and the initiation of criminal proceedings against former Navy chief Admiral (retd) Zafar Mahmood Abbasi.
The former navy chief was summoned to appear before the cabinet secretary on Wednesday by a two-member division bench of the high court consisting of Justices Amir Farooq and Gul Hassan Aurangzeb, according to the report.
The orders were granted during a hearing on Advocate Ashtar Osaf's inter-court appeal, which was submitted in response to the court's order to demolish the sailing club and the beginning of criminal proceedings against the former navy head. According to the appeal, the former naval leader served in the Pakistan Navy for 45 years, commanding it from 2017 to 2020. It went on to say that the appeal on which the decision was made was inadmissible. The report also stated that because the original petition did not request criminal proceedings, the single-bench verdict of January 7 should be ruled null and void.
The court said in its ruling that the former naval commander breached his oath by inaugurating an illegal building, while the executive nominated the naval chief as patron-in-chief of water sports throughout Pakistan in a notification issued on August 23, 1991, according to the appellant.
