Bengaluru: Following the hijab controversy, the Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Department said on Saturday that classes for pre-university students in the state will be postponed from February 12 to 15. The schools had been preparing to reopen on February 14th.

On Friday, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai directed the Superintendents of Police (SP) and District Collectors (DC) to visit important schools in vulnerable regions and ensure that no untoward occurrence occurs, saying that Law and Order should be regarded as a top priority.

Protests erupted in different parts of Karnataka when some students said they were prohibited from attending courses because they wore the hijab, while others protested against wearing the hijab.

The Supreme Court declined to hear urgent petitions in the Karnataka hijab dispute on Friday, saying it is "monitoring" what is going on in the state and in hearings before the High Court.
