Shimla: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Manali on Friday afternoon by a Force helicopter a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's proposed visit on October 3 for the inauguration of the strategically important Atal Tunnel Rohtang. Union Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur also accompanied him to Manali. CM Jairam Thakur welcomed the Defense Minister on the helipad. Due to this, MP Ramswaroop Sharma and Minister Govind Thakur were also present.

Thereafter, the Defense Minister visited Atal Tunnel. During this time, he got information about the tunnel from BRO officers. The defense minister will inaugurate three bridges on the Manali-Leh strategic route today. It includes the longest 360-meter Darcha bridge in the state on the Manali-Leh road. Rajnath Singh will also visit the Palachan and Chandra Bridge at North Portal.

The 100-meter-long bridge over the Chandra river at the North Portal of Atal Tunnel Rohtang was introduced by the BRO in one and a half months, while the 360-meter-long bridge at Darcha is about 32 kilometers ahead of Keylong.

This bridge is the second longest steel trust bridge in northern India and the first in Himachal. From the steel bridge, now the army train will be able to move between Lahaul-Leh-Ladakh without any deadlock. It will not only benefit the force but also the local people and tourists.
