Abu Dhabi;: Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the UAE for making history by allowing the construction of the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi, saying it will promote global unity in culture and harmony.

The grand inauguration of the BAPS Hindu Mandir, Abu Dhabi's first Hindu Temple, took place on February 14 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and prominent UAE Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahyan, as per an official press release.

The temple, situated on land generously provided by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, was inspired by Mahant Swami Maharaj, the spiritual leader of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS), a global Hindu fellowship.

This Mandir stands as the first traditional Hindu stone temple in the Middle East, symbolizing the enduring friendship between India and the UAE, and promoting cultural inclusivity, interfaith harmony, and community cooperation.

Prime Minister Modi received a warm welcome upon his arrival at the temple, greeted by members of the Indian and UAE communities, as well as religious leaders from various faiths.

PM Modi, alongside Mahant Swami Maharaj, led the first grand arti (ceremony of light) of the deities, which was simultaneously performed by thousands at BAPS temples worldwide, with millions more watching online.

Expressing his thoughts, PM Modi inscribed 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam' (The world is one family) onto a stone, highlighting the Mandir's foundational principle guided by Mahant Swami Maharaj's teachings.

In his address, PM Modi hailed the UAE's historic move, stating that the BAPS Mandir will foster global harmony and collaboration.

He acknowledged the vision of Pramukh Swami Maharaj, whose dream initiated the Mandir's construction in 1997. PM Modi also thanked UAE President Al Nahyan for his support.

Mahant Swami Maharaj emphasized the Mandir's role as "an abode of love, peace, and harmony," stressing the importance of individual efforts in nurturing harmony.

Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahyan, expressing gratitude to PM Modi for his visit, described the Mandir as a symbol of friendship and optimism.

Brahmaviharidas Swami, who oversaw the Mandir project, thanked the UAE leadership and PM Modi for their support, highlighting their friendship as instrumental in realizing the Mandir.

The Vedic consecration ceremony performed by Mahant Swami Maharaj marked the formal opening of the Mandir, signifying a gift to future generations and nations, as stated in the release.
