Bhubaneswar: In Odisha, a 22-year-old man was travelling to Bhubaneswar and Cuttack hospitals for the last 15 days for treatment. About 10 hospitals refused to treat him. After this, the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) intervened in the case on Tuesday and finally, the young man was successfully operated.

OHRC took action on the appeal of the victim's sister. The OHRC directed a hospital to look into the case and the young man was operated on Tuesday night. According to petitioner Pabitra Nayak, her brother Ranjit Nayak, a resident of Bhubaneswar, was stabbed by a neighbour on September 8 in a mobile theft case. After assessing the health status of the injured young man, the police asked her parents to admit the young man to the hospital.

Human rights activist Pradeep Pradhan said that the injured young man was taken to two government hospitals and six private hospitals, but the hospitals refused to treat him. On the night of 8 and 9 September, the family wandered into several hospitals for the treatment of the young man, but no one paid attention, while the young man was suffering from unbearable pain. For the next week, family members made repeated requests in various hospitals. Finally, on 22 September, OHRC interfered and the young man got operated.
